Why use Serial Digital Cable? What is SDI? - Serial Digital Interface - SDI and HD-SDI signals have been long used in the broadcast industry. Now with the invention of High Definition in the domestic market, it’s becoming more and common place for the installer to use SDI Cable for all Audio/Video purposes. Using SDI cable ensures broadcast quality pictures and audio. The basic HD-SDI standard is approximately 1.5Gb/s. With a nominal interface now standardized to 3Gb/s. So with all this fast data needing to be transmitted, it only makes sense to use a good quality cable.
